What we measured
This report draws on self-reported income data from IncomeLab's builder community. We collected data across four income models, three experience levels, and a range of monthly time investments. All figures below are monthly recurring revenue (MRR) unless otherwise noted.
Overall income distribution
| Monthly Income Range | % of Active Builders | Avg. Time Active |
|---|---|---|
| $0–$200 | 18% | 0–4 weeks |
| $200–$500 | 22% | 4–8 weeks |
| $500–$1,000 | 27% | 6–12 weeks |
| $1,000–$3,000 | 21% | 3–6 months |
| $3,000–$10,000 | 10% | 6–12 months |
| $10,000+ | 2% | 12+ months |
Note: Builders who left the platform within 30 days are excluded. "Active" = logged in and completed at least one playbook milestone.
Income by hustle type
| Hustle Type | Median Monthly | Top 10% | Avg. Start Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI Social Media | $850/mo | $3,200/mo | 1–2 weeks |
| AI SEO Affiliate | $620/mo | $6,400/mo | 8–12 weeks |
| AI Chatbot Agency | $1,100/mo | $4,800/mo | 3–5 weeks |
| AI Lead Generation | $1,800/mo | $8,500/mo | 4–7 weeks |
| Referral Automation | $340/mo | $1,900/mo | 5–8 weeks |
Time investment vs. income
One of the clearest patterns in the data: builders who commit 10+ hours per week in the first 6 weeks reach $1K/mo significantly faster than those working 2–5 hours per week.
| Weekly Hours (first 6 weeks) | Avg. Time to $500/mo | Avg. Time to $1K/mo |
|---|---|---|
| 2–5 hrs | 14 weeks | 28 weeks |
| 5–10 hrs | 9 weeks | 18 weeks |
| 10–20 hrs | 5 weeks | 10 weeks |
| 20+ hrs | 3 weeks | 6 weeks |
What the top earners do differently
Across the top 10% of builders by income, three patterns are consistent:
- They picked one hustle and didn't switch for at least 60 days. No successful builder in the top decile was running 3+ different income streams in their first 90 days.
- They automated intake and delivery early. Social media builders who set up Notion intake forms and Buffer scheduling in week one earned 40% more by month 3 than those who manually managed everything.
- They niched down. "AI social media for restaurants in Brisbane" outperformed "AI social media for any business" consistently. Specificity commands higher rates and generates faster referrals.
The bottom line
The median IncomeLab builder is earning $620–$1,100/mo by month 3, working 5–10 hours per week. The top 10% are earning $4K–$8K/mo. Both are working the same platform — the difference is focus, niche selection, and early automation.
